The Honorable Commissioner for Transportation, Atuluku Victor Levi, has reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to providing affordable transportation systems in Kogi State.
During a meeting with the ministry’s management staff, top officials of Kogi State Revenue Service, and the Managing Director of Sarniams Nig Ltd, Atuluku emphasized the importance of addressing the transportation challenges faced by the people of Kogi State. The State Government, through the Ministry of Transportation, is actively working to refurbish and reintroduce Ashok Layland buses to fulfill their intended purpose.
Plans are in motion to resume operations of the buses, with a focus on providing affordable and accessible transportation for the people. Atuluku stressed the need for collaboration to ensure the success of this initiative.
He called on KGIRS to adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the consulting firm. It is essential for the agency to create a conducive environment for the consultant to operate efficiently, generate revenue for the state, and meet the needs of the people.
Atuluku highlighted the importance of working together to improve transportation services in Kogi State and provide relief to its residents.
Director of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Hassanat Salawu, provided an insightful overview of the crucial role her agency plays in ensuring the smooth operation of the transport system.
During her presentation, she outlined key points for review, discussion, potential consideration, and implementation. Topics such as payment methods, contract durations, and renewal processes were thoroughly examined and addressed.
Legal representatives of the stakeholders were present to ensure that all laws and contractual terms aligned with the agreements outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Engr. Ayenigba Eyitayo, Managing Director of Sarniams Nig Ltd, expressed gratitude to the state government and the ministry for entrusting him with the contract. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to addressing transportation challenges in the state to achieve the desired goals.
In addition to financial considerations, Engr. Eyitayo highlighted the importance of meeting human needs. After agreeing to the contract terms and conducting a thorough risk assessment, he requested adequate risk coverage to optimize performance.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Akor Gabriel, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, thanked the attendees for their time and thoughtful deliberations.
