The College of Health Sciences, Prince Abubakar Audu University in collaboration with the Dr. Emmanuel Busayo Agbana Development Foundation (DEBADeF) recently hosted the 2nd edition of the Dr. Busayo Emmanuel Agbana Memorial Lecture.

The lecture featured The Achievements of Kogi State Government in Driving the Human Papiloma Virus Vaccination to Prevent Cervical Cancer.

In a paper presented by the Executive Director (ED) Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Muazu Musa Omeiza notes that the Kogi State Government’s effort at driving the HPV vaccination is highly commendable. He said that the 5-day campaign plus the 2-day mop up exercise of the the HPV Vaccination yielded a 99% coverage of target population i.e. 284,750 eligible females were vaccinated.
He further stated that plans are in place to make the HPV vaccination exercise a routine activity.

The lead speaker at the lecture, Dr. SPO Akogu, an Associate Professor and the current provost at the PAAU College of Health Sciences, in his paper called on women to take their reproductive health more seriously. He notes that the Cervical Cancer disease is preventable and can be cured if detected early. He urged staff and students present to take advantage of the routine HPV vaccination campaign and also the ongoing free HPV Screening at the Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital, noting that early detection is key to cure of the disease.

Also present at the event was the Vice-Chancellor of the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Professor Marietu Tenuche and all the principal offers.

The lecture featured goodwill messages presented by many who knew the Late Dr. Busayo Emmanuel Agbana. Worthy of note is the Dr. Jimoh, the current Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Kogi State Chapter and Dr. Kelvin, a key player in the fight against Cervical Cancer in Kogi State.
