Kogi State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones has described balanced living as crucial to attaining excellence and productive ventures.
The Commissioner made this known at a workshop with a Theme: “Balanced Living; Integrating Nutrition, Self-care and mindfulness ” held on Thursday in Lokoja.
The workshop which featured Free Medical Check up, Quantum Test, Free Exercise Training, Free Health Talk, Free Exercise Training and Nutritional Refreshments was organized by Miss Kenny Odebiyi a Corp member serving with the State Ministry of Education.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary Mrs. Barikisu Omolayo Onazare commended the initiator of the program, Miss. Kenny Odebiyi for prioritizing the well-being of the Staff, Students and Corp Members.
Kogi State Government he said recognizes the well-being of the staff as a crucial element in achieving greater goals in life especially in the Education sector, saying that the policies of the State Government in Education are meant to ensure that teachers and students have a conducive environment to teach and learn.
He encouraged the staff and all the participants to use the opportunity provided by the workshop to learn and imbibe the culture of balanced living.
In his speech, the Director of Food and Nutrition, Ministry of Education Mr. Sule Abel said Nutrition is a foundation for good and effective learning, noting that a well nourished child is more attentive, resilient and well equipped to achieve academically.
According to him, ” Nutrition remains the foundation of good health and effective learning”
Balanced Living he said includes Self-care, ability to manage stress, adequate rest, taking responsibility for mental and emotional health and being aware of one’s responsibility on how to stay healthy.
In her opening address, the initiator of the workshop, Miss Kenny Odebiyi said the workshop was to take significant steps towards prioritizing the health and well-being of the people.
She stated that in a world where people face life challenges at the expense of their physical and mental health, balanced living becomes a priority to enhance productive living.
Miss. Kenny noted that focusing on nutrition and well-being will boost people’s energy levels, improves mental clarity and reduces the risk of chronic diseases.
Speaking on a topic “improving nutrition, knowledge and healthy living”, an Assistant Director Nutrition Ministry of Health Mrs. Adeyemi Alapo emphasized on the need for eating healthy foods and inculcating good eating habits.
Also Mrs Fatima Usman who spoke on “Mind Productivity” urged the participants to engage their minds in productive ventures rather than placing more premium on education.
Highpoints of the program were Free Medical Check up and quantum test for the participants and free training exercise for all the participants.
