In a continued effort to strengthen good governance and promote integrity in public administration, the Kogi State Government has has organized a capacity-building training workshop for Directors of Administration and General Services (DAGS) from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
The workshop, themed “Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability in Public Service,” is designed to enhance the professional conduct, leadership capacity, and effective service delivery of local government officials.
Held on Thursday, 28 August, 2025, at the NULGE hall Lokoja, the workshop is expected to provide a strategic platform for reorienting participants on best practices in public service ethics, responsible leadership, fiscal discipline, and transparent administration.
Speaking in His opening Remarks the Chairman , Hon. Adams Adabenege, noted that the training comes at a critical time when public expectations for accountable governance are high.
He added that , Ethics and Accountability constitute the backbone of effective and responsible Public Service, playing a pivotal role in maintaining the trust and legitimacy citizen place in Government institutions.
He further termed the training as “Train the Trainers”, as He charged the Directors to go back to their various local governments and enlighten their subordinates.
The workshop featured series of technical sessions led by experts in public sector ethics, transparency mechanisms, and anti-corruption strategies.
Topics include Accountability and Performance Monitoring in Local Government Administration in Nigeria, by Comrade Shaibu Muhammed, principles of public Sector Ethics by Momoh Okutepa, Legal and Regulatory Framework Governing Public Ethics in Nigeria by Barrister Daniel Ugbede and Overview of Ethics, Transparency and Accountability for effective public Service delivery by Alfa Ameh Ebune .
The initiative is in line with the broader reform agenda of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to deepen transparency, enhance institutional capacity, and drive development through responsible local governance.
The Director Training LGSC, Mr Olusanmi Olugbemisola, charged the Participants to be Ambassadors of proper conduct as ignorance of the law is never an excuse.
Participants in their various vote of thanks, promise to return to their respective local government councils, equipped with practical knowledge and renewed commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct in public service.
