In line with Kogi’s commitment to promoting excellence, safety, and quality assurance across all sectors, the State Government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, joined the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in commemorating the 2025 World Standards Day with a symbolic “Walk for Standards” event, held in Lokoja metropolis.
The event which featured stakeholders, manufacturers, and representatives from key industries such as Dangote Cement, Unicane Industries, Fertilizer Company, Peelinks and Helen’s Place, all joined forces to mark the global celebration themed “A Shared Vision for a Better Future.”
The road walk commenced at Mount Patti Road, with participants trekking through major streets of Lokoja down to Ganaja Junction, helping to create public awareness on the need to uphold quality and standardization in all aspects of life and business.
Delivering his goodwill message on behalf of the Government, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Muhammed Muktar Shuaibu, ably represented by the Higher Data Processing Officer, Mr. Oluwatimilehin Joash Anthony, applauded SON for its efforts in safeguarding quality standards nationwide.
He stated, “This annual event is not just a walk but a collective stride toward excellence, safety, sustainability, and economic prosperity.
Standards form the invisible backbone of trade, production, and service delivery.
They ensure that what we produce and consume is safe, reliable, and of global quality.”
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to supporting initiatives that promote standards compliance, adding that such collaboration enhances industrial growth, consumer safety, and economic stability.
Earlier, State Coordinator of SON, Engr. Olowu Daudu, and Director General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, commended Kogi office for being the only state in the North Central zone to hold the event on the same day as other international counterparts.
Dr. Okeke, who was represented by Director, North Central Region, Dr. Marlin Waziri, explained that the 2025 theme passionately aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17 – Partnership for Goals, which emphasizes collaboration, cooperation, and networking among nations to tackle global challenges through standardization.
The Director further noted that SON has continued to promote standardization across Africa and globally, producing millions of standards in collaboration with international bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
“Standards protect our environment, our health, and ensure a level playing field in trade. They also help to foster innovation, promote sustainability, and strengthen partnerships among stakeholders.”
This symbolic road walk is once again a testament to Governor Ododo’s unwavering commitment to fostering quality, and innovation., thus marking Kogi as a leading voice in promoting standardization, and partnership for sustainable development.
