The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of farmers in the state, particularly those from Lokoja 2 constituency. The Governor made this known today at the Government House, Lokoja during a courtesy visit by the group of farmers from Lokoja 2.
Governor Ododo commended the farmers for their contributions to food security in the nation and Kogi State in particular, saying, “We thank God for giving us a profession that feeds the nation. Farmers are the richest human group in the world.” He attributed the issue of insecurity in the country to neglect from leaders and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for encouraging farming in the country.
The Governor directed the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, to profile the people of Lokoja 2 for a no-interest loan to facilitate dry season farming. He also tasked his cabinet members to embark on farming to encourage grassroots farmers.
Additionally, Governor Ododo promised to address post-harvest losses by creating rural roads and pledged that the state government would offtake all produce from the farmers.
The Governor appreciated the people of Lokoja 2 for massively voting for him in the 2023 election and urged them to register for the ongoing INEC registration exercise.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, who led the Group, thanked the Governor for his intervention in improving the economic conditions of farmers in Lokoja 2, citing the successful Hajj pilgrimage of 68 farmers as evidence of their improved livelihoods.
The representative of the farmers, Rt Hon. Abdurahman Dagana, described Governor Ododo as the most humble Governor in the country. He drew the attention of the Governor the crash in the price of farm products and appealed for a reduction in the prices of farm inputs to enable his people undertake the Dry Season farming
