The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), Kogi State Branch, successfully hosted its 8th Annual Public Lecture, bringing together civil servants and key stakeholders across the state to deepen awareness on ethical governance and corporate responsibility.
The event, which took place at the Kogi State Secretariat Conference Hall, centered on the theme: “Corporate Governance: The Nexus Between Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility.” The lecture provided a platform for participants to explore how strong ethical principles and organizational responsibility contribute to improved service delivery in public institutions.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of CIPM Kogi State Branch, Mr. Daniel Marcus Akuso, ACIPM, expressed profound appreciation to the Kogi State Head of Civil Service, Dr. Elijah Adeiza Evinemi, FCA, for his unwavering support and synergy with the institute. Mr. Akuso acknowledged the Head of Service for always creating avenues for professional development within the service, noting that such collaborations remain vital in building a productive and ethically grounded workforce.
He further assured attendees that the institute is committed to advancing professionalism among civil servants in the state, adding that CIPM will ensure that every participant in this year’s lecture is formally inducted by 2026 as part of the continuous improvement plan for human resource practice in Kogi State.
Delivering a thought-provoking goodwill message, the Head of Service, Dr. Elijah Adeiza Evinemi, FCA, who was ably represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Administration and Public Services, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, commended CIPM for the initiative of enlightening workers on issues bordering on ethical practices. He emphasized that the Office of the Head of Civil Service will continue to give the necessary support that will foster professionalism, strengthen ethical values, and enhance productivity within the Kogi State civil service.
The keynote lecturer, a renowned Professor of Management and Leadership, Prof. John Alabi, delivered an insightful presentation that simplified the intersection between ethics and corporate social responsibility in governance. He emphasized that responsible leadership and sound ethical culture are indispensable for the growth, integrity, and sustainability of organizations, particularly in the public sector where government exists to serve the people.
The Public Lecture marks yet another milestone in CIPM’s drive to shape the future of human resource management and ethical leadership in Kogi State as participants described the lecture as highly engaging and impactful, commending CIPM for consistently contributing to capacity building and development within the state civil service.
