
Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Aridaojo Monday Anyebe has said that the government’s intervention in Youth and Sports Development has been very massive and so rewarding.
Honourable Aridaojo Monday Anyebe made the remark in his office while speaking in an exclusive interview with our Senior Reporter.
He noted that since the coming on board of the Chief Servant of the state, His Excellency, there has been improvement in sports generally, noting that such improvement in the performances of athletes are resultant effects of proper funding for various competitions, both locally and internationally.
The Commissioner explained that Kogi State has moved from three to eleven on the medal table, which is an indication that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is doing well and greatly too.
According to him, a table tennis athlete, Samson is currently representing the State and Nigeria at the United Kingdom, meaning that government’s investment in sports is yielding positive results.
The Sports Commissioner maintained that sports facilities in all higher institutions have been put right as against what obtained before the Governor’s assumption of office, emphasizing that government is ever determined and passionate about the young ones, in order to enable them achieve their dreams in life.
He also noted that the Governor’s personal presence at the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State was to further demonstrate his passion and commitment to sports development, stressing that Governor Ododo is doing well in sports generally.
”As I speak, government has concluded plans to revive the Confluence Stadium, the technical work is ongoing, while the contractual agreement will soon be signed -This again shows government is determined to change the narrative and I am bold to say here that even the Stadium in question was never completed and commissioned, according to records, it has been abandoned by successive governments, but this government is ready to revive the stadium now”, the commissioner stated.
Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe assured that “the people should be optimistic that this government will ensure that the best is brought out of sports in Kogi State”.
Similarly, the Chairman, Kogi United and Confluence Queens, Abdulmalik Isah-Dolly has affirmed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to sports is second to none.
Speaking on the Governor’s achievements in sports, Abdulmalik Isah-Dolly noted that government is not indebted to any team member, while efforts are on to improve on salaries and welfare.
”The Governor is working, even the blind can see, from the participation of Kogi State in National Sports Festival and National Youth Games, it is glaring that there is an improvement and we have to praise the government for its efforts so far”, he echoed.
On her part, the Team Manager of Confluence Queens, Mrs Oluwatosin Ojo has described as false, the social media report that government was not paying attention to the team, saying that the funding of the team by government was worthy of commendation.
Mrs Oluwatosin explained that the Confluence Queens remains the best in North Central Nigeria, stressing that no one can talk of the Nigeria Women Premier League without recourse to the Confluence Queens. “Yes, you cannot mention the NWPL without the Confluence Queens, this is because we have maintained standard, season after season and we are determined to improve”, the team Manager remarked.
The Confluence Queens Team Manager however urged government to look into some of its challenges, adding that there is no team across the globe without a challenge, “not even in developed Countries”, Oluwatosin avered.
