Participants in the ongoing five-day workshop on Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiative (MAMII) have been encouraged to ensure that the state fully benefits from the MAMII program.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, emphasized this point while inaugurating the workshop at the Reverton Hotel, Lokoja. Dr. Adeiza highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in health matters and urged all stakeholders to contribute actively to the program’s success.

He praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritizing health in the state, noting that, through the Governor’s initiatives, every local government area now has state-of-the-art ambulances to prevent maternal deaths during childbirth.

Dr. Adeiza further stated that the ultimate goal is to improve the nation’s standing in maternal and neonatal health, as Nigeria currently ranks second in the MAMII program.

Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, the MAMII Country Leads, emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing maternal and neonatal mortality through a multi-sectoral approach.

Additionally, Dr. Emmanuel Bola Jonah, the Kogi State SWAP desk officer, outlined key thematic areas, including providing an overview of MAMII for effective implementation, conducting in-depth community visits to identify barriers, creating a state-specific context, and securing state commitment for successful MAMII interventions.

A highlight of the event included visits to various communities in the Lokoja local government area for on-the-spot assessments.
