Following a security alert issued by the Nigeria Police Force, Isanlu Division, regarding intelligence reports of a planned attack on churches in Yagba East Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman of Yagba East LGA, Hon. (Dr) Joshua Dare Monday, has assured residents, particularly the Christian community, of heightened security measures ahead of today Sunday worship.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kanwai James, in a letter dated May 20, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Yagba East, disclosed that criminal elements operating within Yagba East and West had concluded plans to launch attacks on churches. The DPO called for vigilance, enhanced internal security within worship centres, and suspension of night programmes until further notice.
In light of these development, Hon. (Dr) Dare Joshua noted that security has been heightened across the LGA and Christians can go about their service without fear. He affirmed that the local government, in partnership with the Nigeria Police, DSS, NSCDC, Vigilantes, and Hunters, is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all places of worship.
“As we did for our Muslim brethren on Friday, the local government will ensure the same level of adequate security for Christians today,” he said. “My administration remains steadfast in its commitment to the protection of lives and properties of all residents in Yagba East.”
The chairman urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information and remaining vigilant. He also commended the synergy between traditional institutions and security formations in the area.
The council chairman, in his memo, solicited the public’s assistance in sharing actionable intelligence to prevent criminal activities, while also advising that internal church security such as Boys Brigade should be strategically deployed during services.
