The North Central Zonal Quiz Competition On Legislature and Democracy 2025 has been won by the School for Gifted Qwaqwalada, Abuja FCT.
The Competition which was organized
by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies in collaboration with the Kogi State Ministry of Education was hosted in Lokoja the State Capital with schools from Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara, FCT and Kogi State Competing.
At the end of the Competition, ECWA Staff School, Jos Plateau State came third with 45 points, Muazu Ibrahim Commercial Secondary School, Niger State Came Second with 60 points and the School for the Gifted Qwaqwalada, Abuja emerged the winners with 75 Points.
In his address, the Director General National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies Prof. Abubarkar Olanruwaju said the objectives of the competition was to provide continued education on the Legislature and broaden the knowledge of the students and youths on the history, practice and procedure of Legislature and also to encourage deeper understanding of the Civic and Democratic Governance.
The Director General who was represented by the Zonal Coordinator, Juwairatu Abdulsalam urged the competing schools and their teachers to abide by the rules of the game by avoiding interference in order to accomplish the objectives of the competition.
Declaring the Competition opened, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones commended the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies for organizing the competition, saying that the competition will bring together brilliant minds from across the North Central Zone of the country to showcase their knowledge, skills and passion for learning.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Kogi State Ministry of Education Mr. Alabi Albert Bamigbade commended the Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritizing education and allocating 30% of the Annual State Budget to the Education sector.
He called on the participating students to take the competition as an opportunity to learn, grow and showcase their talents.
In his opening remarks, the State representative of the competition, the Director Basic and Secondary Education Kogi State Ministry of Education Mr. Mathew Salami urged the participating students to demonstrate their skills, noting that the competition will provide an avenue for the students to learn from one another.
