The Kogi State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) of the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) has launched a three-day orientation workshop focused on “Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Sustainable Women Empowerment in Kogi State”. The workshop was aimed at enhancing the skills and abilities of new staff members assigned to the project, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and compassion in their new roles.
The workshop was officially opened by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Acharu Okpanachi, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Bilikisu Omeneke. In her address, she expressed gratitude to the state governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, for fostering an environment conducive to women’s empowerment in Kogi. “This workshop signifies a new era in women’s empowerment, poverty reduction, and economic inclusion,” she stated, underscoring the commitment of the state government to tackle poverty through strategic partnerships with the World Bank and the Federal Government.
Dr. Esther Ameadaji, the state coordinator, highlighted the necessity of the workshop for the project’s successful launch. She noted that it would equip staff with vital information and insights on proper conduct throughout the duration of the project. The training also involves the Local Government Project Implementation Units in Okene, Dekina, and Yagba East Local Government Areas.
Mr. Frank Olajuwon, the State Technical Adviser, stressed the importance of adhering to the World Bank’s standards during project implementation. He insisted that due process must be followed to guarantee compliance with the high standards set by the Bank. Other management staff members guided the new employees through the project appraisal documents to further equip them for their roles.
The Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up is aimed towards enhancing the economic resilience of poor women in Kogi State by improving their access to livelihood opportunities, facilitating local partnerships that drive economic empowerment, and fostering an inclusive environment for women’s financial participation.
The Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up aims to provide women with comprehensive support through skill acquisition, financial inclusion, and access to resources that enhance their livelihoods. By engaging local governments and project management units, the initiative seeks to build a solid foundation for sustainable women’s empowerment and contribute to poverty alleviation in Kogi State.
It is noteworthy that the workshop not only marks a significant step toward empowering women in Kogi but also embodies the collaborative efforts between the state government, the World Bank, and the Federal Government to enhance women’s socio-economic standing. The commitment displayed by all stakeholders signaled a hopeful future for women in the selected communities, positioning them at the forefront of economic development and social inclusion.
