Ministry of Health Facilitates Free Fistula Surgery for Women in Kogi State

This initiative aims to support the government's efforts in delivering efficient and high-quality healthcare to the residents of Kogi State. Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, the State Commissioner for Health, announced this commitment during a discharge ceremony for nine patients who successfully underwent free fistula surgeries at the State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja. Representing the Commissioner, Dr. Ayo Olayemi, Chief Medical Director of the State Hospital Management Board, presented dignity kits to the nine patients. This marks the first time such surgical procedures have been conducted in Kogi State. Dr. Olayemi encouraged NGOs to collaborate with the state government in providing essential support to underprivileged individuals in need of medical interventions across the state. Remi Akejelu, Program Officer of the Sustainable Family Healthcare Foundation (SFHF), highlighted the organization's focus on offering free fistula surgeries to women facing these challenges. The intervention ensures that patients incur no costs, requiring only their participation in the treatment process. The nine women who received surgery are expected to become advocates for the NGO's fistula treatment initiative. Post-surgery, the NGO provided transportation support and committed to ongoing monitoring of the patients' recovery.
