In a bid to regulate and get rid of indiscriminate planting of billboards, pasting of posters of political campaigns, commercials, social and religious activities in the State, the Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency, has carried out a three days Massive environmental cleanup in Lokoja and its environs.
The exercise which was carried out from Wednesday to Friday took the General Manager and his team round Lokoja metropolis.
According to the General Manager, Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KOSSAA) Hon. Osaseyi Richard the exercise was carried out to regulate and monitor the activities of outdoor advertisements saying that any organization that intended to erect any outdoor advertisement must seek an approval from the Agency.
KOASAA he said was not just carrying out the enforcement but the defaulters were given time to register with the Agency but refused to take action, noting that the Agency followed all necessary procedures laid down by the Law establishing KOSSAA before arriving at the decisions. The crackdown he said would serve as a deterrence to others.
The General Manager emphasized that all business owners, corporate organizations among others should comply with the policies of the Agency before they display or advertise their products saying that all clustered billboards and those under high tension cables would be removed to prevent environmental hazards.
Speaking, one of business owners in Lokoja Mallam Abdul Abubarka commended the State Government for establishing the Agency, saying the business community in Lokoja would comply with the Agency to ensure that outdoor advertisement in Lokoja is regulated to avoid environmental hazards.
