Kogi State Ministry of Water Resources has taken delivery of a brand new water drilling rig towards addressing water scarcity in rural areas.

Inaugurating the drilling machine in Lokoja on Thursday, the Deputy Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Mrs Comfort Nwuchola Egwaba said the purchase of the rig by the government further demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to the provision of basic social amenities to the people.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted the importance of potable water to the well-being of the people and commended the government for its foresight.

She assured that the rig will add value to the lives of the people and urged the Ministry and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASA to ensure proper use of the machine to justify the purpose for which it was acquired.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner of Water Resources, Engineer Farouk Yahaya said the initiative was part of efforts to ensure the provision of water for all.

Engineer Farouk said the water level in parts of the state demanded that the rig be purchased by the government to address such peculiar situations and assured that with government’s genuine commitment, water shortage in parts of the state will soon be a thing of the past.

“The Governor is desirous of empowering the Ministry of Water Resources and its agencies, RUWASA & Kogi State Water Board too. To demonstrate such commitment, I took delivery of a brand new borehole drilling machine for the use of RUWASA as part of efforts in tackling the issues of water scarcity frontally. What we all need now is a little more patience and prayers for the Governor who, like his predecessor, understands that water is life”, the Commissioner stated.

The State Commissioner of Agriculture, Mr Timothy Ojama also witnessed the inauguration of the water drilling machine.
