The Kogi State Ministry of Health, has successfully conducted a comprehensive review and adoption of the state’s Health Security Annual Operation Plan (AOP) for 2025. This critical review took place at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) within the Ministry of Health in Lokoja on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
The adoption process was officially opened by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Steven Momoh Aziz. The adoption of the newly developed AOP for health sector security provides an opportunity to align the state’s health plans and programs with national health strategic plan, ensuring effective coordination and delivery of health services. Mr. Aziz emphasized the vital role of data in all health activities and programs at both the state and national levels. He also highlighted the importance of reviewing the AOP documents before they are finalized and made available to the public.
During the program, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, noted the Nigerian Governors’ Forum’s ongoing interest and commitment to ensuring robust AOPs in the health sector at both state and national levels. He noted that adoption and implementation are key to health sector performance and urged various departments to collaborate effectively to achieve common goals and produce comprehensive reports on the state’s health sector.
Equally, Director of Public Health, stated that adopting the health security AOP is a significant step towards enhancing the state’s health security, particularly in preparing for potential disease outbreaks and other serious health concerns.
In his remarks, the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Ojotule Augustine emphasized that the adoption of this document is part of the state’s efforts to ensure emergency readiness against all forms of disease outbreaks and other public health threats. The goal is to guarantee that public health activities in the state are comprehensive and that health policy implementation is consistent and effective.
