Kogi State, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been making waves in promoting gender equality and empowering women.
Recently, the state played host to the 2025 North Central Pre-Council Technical Zonal Consultative Education & Policy Sensitization Workshop at the Government House, Lokoja, a significant event towards the 25th National Council on Women Affairs.
This Women Empowerment Initiatives marked a milestone in Kogi State’s history, as it was the first time a National Zonal Pre-Council meeting was held on its soil. The workshop highlighted the state’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and welfare with aim to brining the women in the zone together.
Kogi State has implemented various measures to boost women’s economic independence, providing them with opportunities to contribute to the state’s growth. The state has also recorded a significant increase in women’s representation in the legislative house and other political offices, showcasing Governor Ododo’s commitment to gender equality.
The administration has established a Sexual Assault Referral Centre, a vital institution dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual assault and promoting a safer community. Additionally, Kogi State has strengthened existing laws and introduced new ones to protect vulnerable persons, including the Kogi State Child Right Law, Disability Law, and Violence Against Person’s Prohibition Law.
The Honourable Commissioner for Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatimah Momoh, expressed gratitude to the Honorable Minister, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, for choosing Kogi State as the venue for this crucial national event. She encouraged participants to explore the state’s rich cultural and economic potentials during their stay.
This event reveales Governor Ododo’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and equitable society, setting a shining example for other states to follow.
