The Kogi State Government has officially presented title documents for the construction of a Federal Bus Terminal in Lokoja to the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

The development follows the Federal Government’s recent approval for the construction of ultra-modern bus terminals across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, with Lokoja chosen to host the project for the North Central region.

Kogi State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Atuluku Victor Levi, formally handed over the documents to the Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’id Ahmed Alkali, during a ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.

In his remarks, Hon. Atuluku described the initiative as a timely and strategic step towards strengthening the state’s transport sector, noting that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He highlighted that Kogi is the first among the six designated states to provide land documentation, underscoring the state government’s proactive commitment to the project.

The Commissioner further assured that the state would continue to create enabling opportunities for infrastructural growth and economic transformation through a restructured transportation system.

Receiving the documents, Minister Sa’id Ahmed Alkali commended the Kogi State Government for its swift response and partnership with the Federal Government. He emphasized that Lokoja’s strategic position as a major transit hub linking over ten states makes the project particularly impactful.

“The bus terminal will not only enhance safety and order in the transport sector but will also generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs while boosting the social, economic, and infrastructural development of Kogi State and beyond,” the Minister stated.

The Federal Bus Terminal in Lokoja is expected to complement the already established state-owned mega transport terminal, further positioning the state as a critical gateway for road transportation in Nigeria.
