The Kogi State Government has initiated the distribution of essential drugs and medical consumables to all government-owned health institutions across the state. This initiative is a key component of the state’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure that quality medications are both accessible and affordable for all citizens. Pharm. Salamat Onize Yunusa, the Executive Director of the Kogi State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (KSDMSMA), announced this initiative during a recent monitoring exercise of the distribution process. She explained that the agency has organized the drugs and medical consumables into five distinct categories, ensuring that every health facility in the state receives the necessary supplies tailored to their specific needs. The distribution, which commenced recently, encompasses all hospitals within the state, including tertiary health institutions. The range of items being distributed includes essential medicines, laboratory reagents, and various medical supplies critical for effective healthcare delivery. This initiative underscores the Kogi State Government’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare services, aiming to make quality healthcare accessible to all citizens. By supplying essential drugs and medical consumables to health facilities, the state is taking a significant step toward reducing mortality rates and enhancing overall health outcomes. To ensure the effectiveness of this distribution exercise, the state government is closely monitoring the process to guarantee that supplies reach their intended destinations. Measures have been implemented to prevent diversion and ensure that the drugs are delivered to the appropriate facilities. Pharm. Yunusa credited the success of this initiative to the exemplary leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who has shown a steadfast commitment to advancing the healthcare sector in Kogi State. Under Governor Ododo’s leadership, the state has experienced a remarkable transformation in its healthcare delivery system, paving the way for a healthier future for all residents.
She also praised the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, for his tireless efforts in ensuring that the healthcare sector receives the attention it deserves. “The Commissioner of Health has been instrumental in driving the reforms in the healthcare sector, and his leadership has been pivotal to the success of this initiative. We are grateful for his vision and commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Kogi State,” Pharm. Yunusa added.
