Kogi State Government gives commitment on emergency preparedness and response

Kogi State Government has assured of its commitment to tackling all emergencies through adequate preparedness and timely response.

The Governor made the commitment on Thursday in Lokoja in a message to the closing of stakeholders engagement on Emergency Preparedness and Response organized by National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA in partnership with the World Bank Group and State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo who was represented by the Special Adviser on SEMA, Doctor Sandra Musa noted that government’s commitment was based on the Governor’s political will at changing the narrative in all sectors.

He noted that in order to achieve maximum results on emergency situations, the administration has appointed over three Special Advisers to effectively tackle emergencies, no matter the magnitude.

The Governor praised the resilient spirit of NEMA and World Bank for their commitment to the well-being of the masses, particularly the victims of various disasters, stressing that such commitment should be applauded by institutions and individuals.

He called for the cooperation of other critical partners in the quest to making the society a better place for all.

In his speech, the Zonal Director of NEMA, Alhaji Waziri Aliu explained that the engagement offered opportunities for critical discussions and practical ways of dealing with emergencies and urged the participants to properly use the knowledge gained at the workshop to attain set goals.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of Kogi State SEMA , Alhaji Muktar Atima thanked the World Bank and NEMA for making Kogi a pilot state, assuring that SEMA will continue to be alive to its responsibilities.

Alhaji Muktar described Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as a responsive leader with a passion to offer selfless services to the people.
