The Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commenced the distribution of food palliatives across the state, sourced from the Federal Government’s strategic reserve.

Speaking during the flag-off, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, emphasized that the initiative is backed by a strong capacity-building component aimed at supporting farmers and boosting agricultural productivity. He noted that the programme will ultimately contribute to food security and economic growth in the state, stressing that Governor Ododo remains committed to empowering the less privileged with modern inputs and practical knowledge for enhanced productivity and sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.

Hon. Ojomah charged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grains, urging them to prioritize food security, share with their families and communities where possible, and resist the temptation to sell the grains for personal gain. He underscored that the palliatives were provided to support the well-being of citizens and alleviate hunger, and must be used for their intended purpose.

In this phase of the intervention, the state received a total of five trucks from the Federal Government three loaded with millet and two with sorghum for distribution across all communities in the 21 local government areas of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Aliyu Musa expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Ododo for the gesture. He commended the governor’s leadership and commitment to the welfare of the people, noting that the initiative has brought much-needed relief and hope to vulnerable families across Kogi State.
