awwThe Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in Kogi State, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, recently convened a meeting with the Fulani community to discuss the importance of peaceful coexistence and potential collaborations between farmers and cattle sellers.

During the meeting, held in the Commissioner’s office, Hon. Ojomah extended his congratulations to the newly elected Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Ali, and expressed gratitude to the Fulani community for their contributions to the development of Kogi State.

In his address, the Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s dedication to promoting harmony between farmers and herders, emphasizing that economic prosperity can only be achieved through unity. He also emphasized the significance of working with consultants to generate revenue for the state, which will ultimately benefit the residents of Kogi State.

Hon. Ojomah stressed the importance of adhering to the animal grazing law, which includes the payment of cattle fees, inspection fees, and hygiene fees. He encouraged the Fulani Community to collaborate with the government to establish a harmonious relationship and demonstrate a sense of unity. The primary objective of the meeting is to ensure peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, thereby contributing to food security and economic growth.

The Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulsalam Segir, highlighted the need for increased efforts to surpass revenue targets, emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum and striving for excellence. This mindset is crucial in driving growth and success, particularly in revenue-driven initiatives.

Elder Ali Peter, representing the Veterinary and Livestock Department, expressed the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a more collaborative environment for livestock farmers ultimately contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector adding that a template has been designed to focus on critical aspects which will help to identify the various groups that make up livestock farmers in the state, the location of farm settlements, identify areas of government activities for more support, area of hide and skin license, meat collection centers and conflict resolution.

The consultant on Animal Inspection, Hon Musa Abdullahi, commended the Executive Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ododo for providing an enabling environment for business to thrive thereby reducing the risk of cattle rustling, highlighted the challenges faced on the field and called on the government to take decisive action in promoting a fair and equitable tax statement.

Alhaji Yusuf, the newly elected chairman of the Miyetti Allah, expressed his gratitude to Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo for his support during the Miyetti Allah elections. He also thanked the government for providing 540,000 doses of Anthrax, which has benefitted the Fulani community, appealing to the Governor to establish a livestock market in Kogi State. This market,he said, would not only provide a centralized hub for livestock trading but would also generate significant revenue for the state,assuring the government that the Fulani Community is committed to paying taxes promptly.

Alhaji Dauda,the Ado thanked the State Government for granting scholarship to his sons,the support in security and promised to do his best to ensure that they maintain peace in order to achieve food security in the state.
