Julitola International Academy, Lokoja has immerged winners of the State Level 10th edition of the National Quiz competition on legislature and democracy.
Julitola International Academy Lokoja scored a total of 45 points to defeat the second and third positions, Aleka Academy, Ankpa and Government Science Secondary School, Ogaminana who scored 40 and 30 points respectfully.
The competition was organized by the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies, Abuja for students in Senior Secondary Schools in other to keep them abreast of the workings of the Legislature.
Six Schools drawn from the three Senatorial Districts on Thursday converged on the GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo for the Quiz competition.
Declaring the competition open the Director General National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Suleiman said the aim of the competition is to deepen knowledge of Legislative and Democratic Governance at the level of Secondary School and also to inspire young Nigerian to cultivate the interest in legislative governance.
The Director General who was represented by the state co-ordinator Mr. Gideon Lamido said the Legislature as a critical organ of democracy, it is expedient on them to enhance the knowledge of young Nigerian in Legislature in other to foster inclusive and participatory democracy in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Honorable Wemi Jones commended the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies for sustaining the competition since 2010, adding that the extension of the program to the 36 States of the Federation is a strong commitment to inclusivity, national unity and the empowerment of young men and women.
He noted that the competition is in line with the State Government policies in education which are centred on ensuring that pupils and students are enlighten for the responsibilities of leadership.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary Mrs. Barikisu Omolayo Onazare advised the students to approach the competition with zeal, confidence and discipline , noting that the greatest prizes of the competition are knowledge, character and resilience.
In his welcome address, the State representative of the program, Mr Mathew Salami called on the participating schools to play by the rules of the competition, saying that the competition is all about acquiring knowledge.
