The Kogi Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with the Bureau of Land and consulting firms, conducted an inspection of proposed sites for the construction of a trailer park intended to serve vehicles traversing the state.

Hon. Commissioner Atuluku Victor Levi reaffirmed the state government’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding lives, alleviating traffic congestion, and enhancing road safety. He conveyed this message on Monday at the New Zango Abobo trailer park along the Okene-Lokoja road while addressing the drivers.

Commissioner Atuluku emphasized the current administration’s determination, under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, to build upon the achievements of previous administrations and address the widespread issue of insecurity. He further highlighted the measures implemented by the state government to promptly address recurring fatal accidents involving trucks in the state capital, underscoring the necessity of protecting lives and easing traffic flow.

To regulate trailer operations and ensure safety and order on the roads, the construction of a trailer park is deemed essential to comply with various federal and state regulations, he added.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, ESV Baiyegunsi Samuel Taiwo, expressed that the state government’s initiative to construct a trailer park is driven by the need to improve living conditions. He noted that this initiative reflects Governor Ododo’s commitment to fostering a safer, more secure, and environmentally conscious Kogi State.

In response, Chairman of the Abobo trailer park, Tukur Abubakar, represented by Vice Chairman Hamza Hussaini, acknowledged the administration’s relentless efforts to enhance public safety and productivity. He assured the government delegation of their full cooperation and pledged that the executives would ensure trailer drivers adhere to best practices and professional standards in alignment with the state’s mandate.

The delegation then proceeded with their inspection tour to Kumgbani and Izio on Abuja – Lokoja road. During the inspection tour, Surveyor General Bureau of Land, Surv Salihu Mustapha gave a brief and detailed breakdown of the physical features of the proposed sites for the trailer park.

‎Comparatively, Consultants, ITTAKES2 Concept, Charles Billions Pius and Trailer Transit Hub,Ken Atteh, both earmarked Izio site as the most suitable location for the project.
