The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, today Monday, 15th September 2025,hosted a Technical presentation on the proposed Kogi State plan at the Conference Hall of the Ministry.

The event brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the blueprint for sustainable growth and livability,the Honorable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon Abanika Taiye in his address, described the master plan proposal as a landmark initiative that Will define the future Urban outlook of the state capitol and extend structured development to other cities and towns across Kogi State.
He said: ” This plan is not just a document but a blueprint for sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, and improved quality of life of our people. It is fully aligned with the visionary leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Chief Servant of the State whose unwavering commitment to Urban renewal, affordable housing and sustainable development is charting a new progressive course for our dear state “.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s mandate to provide affordable housing solutions, promote orderly Urban development, and foster sustainable communities. He further cited flagship projects such as the Renewed Hope City as a clear demonstration of government’s dedication to addressing housing challenges, creating livable environment and laying a strong foundation for Urban prosperity

The Director_General of Kogis, Dr. Mohammed Ozigis, commended the Governor for initiating the master plan, highlighting the inclusion of concepts such as climate change, climate resilience, and climate smart city principles, which he described as critical to modern urban development.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Kogi State Town Planning and Development Board, TPL Yusuf Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the Governor for the initiative. He assured that the board will provide maximum support to ensure orderliness in its implementation. He further expressed confidence in the Consultant TPL Nathaniel Atebije (FNITP) describing him as a respected Professional with a proven track record in other states.

Presenting the proposal for the master plan,TPL Nathaniel Atebije emphasized its key focus areas including:

*Urban Planning and Growth: orderly development strategies for Lokoja and other cities

*Housing infrastructure: meeting housing needs and enhancing essential services such as water,power,waste management, and inter_community development.

*Sustainability and Environment: promoting environmental balance and long_term resilience. Also the Director _General Bureau of Lands TPL Kehinde Augustine Salihu-Otaru and also other stakeholders in their remarks, appreciated His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo,for his foresight and stressed the importance of the master plan as a corner stone for balanced Urban expansion, enhanced economic activities, improved livability, and inclusive development across all the senatorial district of the state.

In attendance included Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon Abanika Taiye, Director -General Bureau of Lands, TPL Kehinde Augustine Salihu-Otaru, Director _General Kogis, Dr.Mohammed Ozigis, General Manager,Town Planning and Development Board, TPL Yusuf Abdullahi, the Surveyor-General of the state, Surveyor Salihu Mustapha, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Dr. Obadaki Zainab ( ESV), the Permanent Secretary Bureau of Lands,ESV Baiyegunsi S.T, the Consultant TPL Nathaniel Atebije,directors of the Ministry and the various agencies.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuous stakeholder engagement and community participation to ensure the success of the proposed master plan and to deliver a more prosperous and sustainable future for the state and its citizens.
