The Kogi State Government has delivered relief materials to families of those who lost their lives in the recent boat mishap at Unugwa community in Ibaji Local Government Area.

The gesture is in fulfillment of the promise made by the state Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, demonstrating his political will to addressing various challenges facing the people.

The relief items, which include bags of rice, mattresses, bedsheets and semovita, were handed over to the affected community by the Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Mouktar Atimah who formally presented the items through the Local Government Chairperson, Mrs. Victoria Okolo.

While addressing the families, Alhaji Atimah urged them to accept the materials in good faith and ensure the items reach the actual victims.

He further encouraged the community to continue supporting government policies designed for the benefit of the people.

Alhaji Mouktar Atima assured that the present administration under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo will remain responsive to the needs of the people and thanked them for their perseverance.

“We have come today to deliver the message of the Chief servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo who shares in the pains of those who lost their lives ones in the recent boat disaster, these relief materials are meant to amelliorate their pains. We will continue to pray that Allah will avert such incident in the future and we pray for the repose of the souls of the departed”, the Executive Secretary stated.

In her remarks, the Ibaji Local Government Chairperson, who also doubles as the Chairperson of the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), Mrs. Victoria Okolo, expressed appreciation to the state government and SEMA for the timely intervention. She assured that the people of Ibaji will remain committed to supporting government initiatives.

In a similar engagement, the SEMA Executive Secretary and his team visited Idah Local Government Area where they also delivered the state government’s message and relief materials to victims of flooding in parts of the area.

The items were received by the Vice Chairperson and Chairperson of the Local Emergency Management Committee, Hon. Nefisetu Oseni, who thanked the government for the support.

The Idah Local Government Chairman, Hon. Alhaji Alhaji, also expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for the continuous assistance to disaster-affected communities.

The distribution exercises in both Ibaji and Idah were witnessed by local government officials, SEMA staff, and security personnel.
