The Kogi State Government has reiterated its dedication to an intensified crackdown on criminal activities throughout the state, assuring residents of ongoing decisive measures to restore peace and secure the release of abducted individuals.
This commitment was articulated by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, who revealed that security agencies are actively tracking criminal elements, with significant operations already in progress to liberate those held captive.
Fanwo emphasized the government’s deep concern for the trauma experienced by the families of kidnapped individuals and its unwavering focus on the safety and well-being of all victims.
“We fully comprehend the distress faced by the families of kidnapped victims and are profoundly concerned for their well-being. The Governor has made substantial investments to ensure the state is equipped to dismantle criminal networks,” Fanwo stated.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast support, along with the National Security Adviser, Service Chiefs, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Inspector General of Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for their relentless assistance in combating crime in Kogi State.
Fanwo highlighted the Governor’s increased investment in preventive security measures, underscoring the government’s resolve to secure the release of every Kogi resident held by criminals.
“We are committed to ensuring the rescue of every Kogi resident in captivity. We extend our sympathies to families who have lost loved ones and are actively working to significantly improve the security situation,” he affirmed.
While acknowledging the legitimacy of peaceful protests against insecurity, the Commissioner cautioned that such demonstrations should remain free from political influences.
“We cannot afford to be divided as a community at this critical time,” he concluded.
The State Government also commended individuals and stakeholders who are cooperating with security agencies and supporting government efforts to combat violent crime.
Fanwo specifically praised the Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Leke Abejide, for providing logistics to support security operations in his constituency.
βHe has put his money where his mouth is by matching words with actions. The Kogi State Government appreciates his great show of support and calls on others to defend the people instead of playing politics with security,β he said.
He warned that individuals who disturb public peace under the guise of protest, as well as their sponsors, would be made to face the full weight of the law.
