Kogi female Fedder weight Boxer Celestina Ekele has won the first bronze medal for the state and moved to semi-finals at the ongoing National Sports Festival holding in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Similarly Anu Oluwapo and Taiwo Sikirata have also qualified for quarter finals.

The girls beat their counterparts from
Bauchi five zero to secure the semi final and quarter finals positions respectively.

This would be the first athletes from the state to qualify as they fight for the gold medal.

Speaking to newsmen the coach of the boxers, Ekele Dan Uloko promised to ensure the girls cling the gold medal in the Fedder weight.

Coach Ekele said with constant practice and enthusiasm the boxers would make the state proud.

In a remark, the Director Sports Development in the Kogi State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr David Ogazuma congratulated the team for qualifying for the semi-final and quarter finals and urged them to go for gold.

He assured the girls of the continued support of the state government to sporting activities and the welfare of athletes.

Also speaking, the Director Kogi State sports Council Mr. Akowe Adejoh advised them not to relent but put in more efforts to come out victorious at the end of the competition.

In the meantime, the table tennis players from Kogi State will begin their contest tomorrow.

Coach Saku Usman who is leading the team said his players were in high spirits for the games.

He said the would not go for anything less than the gold medal.
