Lokoja, Kogi State, The Kogi State Government is set to deepen its collaboration with civil society as the Cal-Maji Foundation moves to partner with the state on sustainable agriculture, water management, and environmental protection.

This followed a joint meeting between the Ministries of Agriculture and Food Security, Environment, and Water Resources, and their supervising Committees in the Kogi State House of Assembly, held on Tuesday under the leadership of Hon. Timothy Ojone, Commissioner for Agriculture.

Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Hon. Jibril Onoruoiza Abu (Ajaokuta Constituency), said the Assembly welcomes innovative solutions that will boost food security, create jobs, and strengthen resilience against climate challenges.
“The engagement of Cal-Maji Foundation with our ministries and committees will provide a strong framework for coordinated action,” he said, while conveying the goodwill of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar.

Faith Ayegba, Project Director of Cal-Maji Foundation, said the Foundation is ready to work with the government to promote organic farming, regenerative agriculture, and agroecology to tackle soil degradation and food insecurity.

The Commissioners for Agriculture, Water Resources, and Environment, in their remarks, commended the Foundation’s vision and pledged full support for joint initiatives, while lauding Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for making sustainability a priority in his administration.

Lawmakers, including Hon. Abu, Hon. Ebaiya Shehu Tijani (Water Resources), and Hon. Seyi Bello (Agriculture), jointly praised the Governor for his openness and political will in advancing food security and social protection in the state.

At the close of deliberations, it was resolved that the Cal-Maji Foundation will brief the State Economic Team before presenting its proposals to the State Executive Council (EXCO) for final consideration.
