The Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo has directed Local Government and Traditional Councils to stop arbitrary procreation of traditional titles in the State.Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Salami Momodu Ozigi Deedat in a meeting with Local Government Chairmen in Lokoja today, His Excellency instructed the Chairmen to stop issuing letters in respect of new titles.
Stressing the need for synergy between the local and traditional councils, he urged the Chairmen to go back to their various Local Government Areas and hold meetings with their respective Traditional Councils to help them understand the due process of procreation of titles and the implication of arbitrary creations.
While advising against situations where recipients of honourary titles begin to lay claims to stools and remuneration he revealed that a circular would be forwarded to the traditional councils for guidance.
His Excellency the Governor of Kogi State further directed Traditional Rulers to stop issuing consent letters on land without the knowledge and consent of the Local Government Chairman. He advised Traditional Rulers to consult all land owners in the community before transactions involving considerably large pieces of land. This is in order to forestall the unpleasant attendant security related consequences.
He also urged Traditional Rulers to ensure that their Local Government Chairmen are duly informed before they travel out of their domains.
