Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has extended his warmest congratulations to his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in honour of his 50th birthday.
In his tribute, Governor Ododo characterised this significant milestone as an occasion for reflection and celebration of a leader whose tenure has been marked by courage, transformative initiatives, and a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and communities throughout Kogi State and Nigeria.
Governor Ododo recalled that Yahaya Bello made history in 2016 by becoming the youngest governor in Nigeria and the youngest to lead Kogi State. His leadership has since become a model for cultivating a new generation of political leaders in the region.
“Governor Yahaya Bello emerged as a visionary leader, paving the way for a future where individuals from all backgrounds could aspire to positions of influence. He transformed neglected streets into pathways to leadership. I stand here today as the Chief Servant of Kogi State, a testament to that empowering philosophy,” he stated.
The current governor highlighted that Bello’s administration broke traditional political barriers by creating opportunities for youth and women across various wards and local government areas, irrespective of their social status or background.
He reiterated that the former governor focused on developing individuals of substance, not merely those with titles, fostering a new cadre of public servants who emerged from diverse backgrounds and became beacons of leadership.
Governor Ododo emphasised that Bello’s governance philosophy was centred on serving as a bridge for ordinary citizens to access opportunities. He ensured that those who served in his administration remained approachable and accountable to the public in their subsequent roles at both the state and federal levels.
He acknowledged that Bello’s significant achievements in civil service reform, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security have established a solid foundation that continues to guide the current administration toward success in the state.
“With over 30% of the state’s annual budget allocated to education, the establishment of two new universities within four years, the creation of safer communities, and the transformation of countless lives, the results speak for themselves, and we are committed to building upon these successes.
“Bello’s dedication to promoting women in leadership through a 35% affirmative action policy has become a hallmark of inclusive governance, setting a benchmark for our initiatives in Kogi State,” he remarked.
Governor Ododo emphasised that his ascension as the successor to the former governor exemplifies Bello’s belief in nurturing new generations of leaders. He underscored that Bello’s legacy is evident in the achievements of the current administration, which has established a sustainable system worthy of emulation.
He concluded by offering prayers for God’s continued guidance for the former governor in all his future endeavours as he celebrates the significant milestone of his 50th birthday.
