Gov Ododo Vows to Crush Criminals, Strengthen Traditional Institutions

… As Olu of Ayetoro-Gbede Is Crowned

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for crime and its unshakable support for traditional institutions as key partners in peacebuilding and grassroots development.

Speaking through his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, at the coronation of His Royal Majesty, Oba Adewunmi Sunday, the new Olu of Ayetoro-Gbede on Saturday, Governor Ododo vowed that his government will root out kidnappers and bandits terrorizing parts of Kogi West and restore lasting peace across the area.

“We are fully aware of the recent activities of kidnappers and bandits in some parts of this zone. Our government is doing everything humanly possible to eliminate these criminals and make our communities safe again,” the Governor said.

“However, security is a collective responsibility. I call on all sons and daughters of this land to cooperate with security agencies, report suspicious movements, and expose anyone collaborating with criminals. Such persons will be treated as enemies of the state.”

Governor Ododo described the coronation as a historic and divine event, marking a new dawn for the Ayetoro-Gbede community. He congratulated Oba Adewunmi Sunday and prayed for a reign of peace, unity, and prosperity.

“Your ascension to the throne is not a coincidence; it is divine. It is a sacred calling to lead your people with wisdom, promote harmony, and preserve their cultural heritage,” he said.

The Governor also commended Prince Olushola Akanmode, who was conferred with the title of Asiwaju of Ayetoro-Gbede, lauding him as a “patriot, philanthropist, and community builder whose leadership by example has inspired many.”

“Prince Akanmode has remained a pillar of strength not only to Ayetoro-Gbede but to Kogi State at large. His commitment to humanity and community service makes him truly deserving of this great honour,” the Governor added.

Reiterating his administration’s focus on inclusive development, Governor Ododo highlighted ongoing investments in education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, and youth empowerment, assuring that no community will be left behind under his leadership.

“Our goal is clear, to build a secure, united, and prosperous Kogi State where every citizen can thrive in peace,” he affirmed.

Governor Ododo urged the people of Ayetoro-Gbede and Kogi West to rally behind their new monarch and work together in unity, describing collaboration between government, traditional rulers, and citizens as vital for sustainable peace and development.

“The true beauty of leadership lies in service, and the true strength of a community lies in unity,” the Governor added.
