The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has held its 2026 maiden management meeting as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its legal framework and enhance operational effectiveness. In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Jimoh Muhammed, expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of staff in 2025 and given the opportunity to witness the beginning of 2026, urging them to remain committed to adding value and driving fiscal discipline across the state. He stated that the purpose of the meeting was to review the Commission’s performance, assess its challenges, and set strategic priorities for the new year. The chairman observed that the Fiscal Responsibility Law 2012, which established the Commission, is obsolete and requires a review. He also advocated for improved funding, enhanced mobility, and adequate staffing to enable the Commission effectively discharge its statutory responsibilities. Mallam Jimoh also noted that though the Commission is still relatively new, deliberate efforts are being made to reposition it for greater impact. He commended the Kogi State House of Assembly Members for their support and encouragement during the recent Commission’s 2026 budget defense, noting that the lawmakers were impressed by the progress of the Commission within its short period in office. He, however, assured that management remains committed to addressing the challenges through sustainable engagements and realistic reforms.
