The Kogi State Emergency Management Agency has partnered again with the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Management and Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC) to prepare for potential flood disasters.
In an effort to mitigate the impact of impending flood, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Alh Mouktar Atimah, said the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has charged the Agency in implementing proactive measures across Kogi State, especially the major nine (9) local government areas prone to flood.
During this strategic meeting in Lokoja, Kogi State Emergency Management response team and the Ministry of Environment had key discussions, and agreed-upon action items for improving disaster preparedness and response through effective measures such as improved drainage systems, environmental sanitation, and awareness campaigns.
The Honourable Commissioner for Ministry of Environment, Engr. (Hon.) Joseph Oluwaseun Stephen, commended KOSEMA’s efforts and stressed the importance of collaborative partnership to address challenges in disaster management.
In similar vein, KOSEMA visited the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPADEC) to discuss the 2025 flood predictions released by NIMET. Atimah said, the visit is meant for collaboration on how to effectively manage the impending flood through sensitization, coordination, working relationship and sharing of data.
Futhermore, he highlighted HYPADEC’s vital roles in disaster management and intervention provisions, and sought for cooperation in mitigating the impending flood.
Also in attendance were the Special Adviser on Emergency to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Shuaibu, as well as the representative from Ministry of Health, Dr Gabriel Atuluku.
While responding, the State Coordinator HYPADEC, Mr. Michael Omeiza Ajayi, acknowledged the agency’s importance in disaster management and pledged support, synergy, and enhanced collaboration.
