Governor Ododo Approves Implementation of Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) in Kogi State.

The Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) has officially commenced in Kogi State, following endorsement by His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State. This Federal Government initiative is supported by the World Bank in collaboration with Kogi State Government, aims to transform women’s livelihoods by improving access to financial services, entrepreneurship skills, and strengthening social networks that promote economic empowerment and sustainable community development.

In her remark, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. (Mrs.) Esther Ameadaji, on behalf of the State Project Coordinator’s Unit (SPCU), lauded His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, for graciously approving the implementation of the Project across the three senatorial districts ; Okene Local Government Area (Kogi Central), Yagba East Local Government Area (Kogi West), and Dekina Local Government Area (Kogi East).

Dr. Ameadaji commended His Excellency for his visionary leadership, steadfast commitment to women’s empowerment, and continuous support for inclusive economic initiatives.

She emphasized that this approval reflects the Governor’s deep concern for the socioeconomic advancement of women and his resolve to foster sustainable development across all parts of the state.

“The Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) is a strategic long-term partnership between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the World Bank to support the government’s goal of ensuring gender equality.

This project’s design is the first of its kind to be implemented in Nigeria and Kogi State with the introduction of a model- Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) where existing women groups will be institutionalized and new groups will be formed to enable women gain easy access to the empowerment program.

This project will address barriers to women’s prosperity and build social assets for women’s economic participation which is critical for inclusive poverty reduction in Nigeria. The NFWP intends to achieve this by implementing, across multiple local contexts in Nigeria approaches that contribute to women’s economic outcomes and, through them, the well-being of individual households and communities”, Dr. Ameadaji noted.

She further encouraged all active women aged 18 years and above to take full advantage of the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up, describing it as a unique opportunity to expand livelihood activities, increase household income, and contribute meaningfully to the economic growth and transformation of Kogi State.

The Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up marks a new chapter of empowerment for women across the state, equipping them to thrive, support their families, and drive inclusive prosperity.
