Kogi State Government has stated that it will continue to place priority on the health need of the people of the State.

The State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Saka Haruna stated this at the sensitization and free Eye Medical check to citizens organised by Kogi State Chapter of Nigerian Optometric Association in partnership with Ministry of Health in lokoja.

Doctor Saka said the day is set aside to celebrate the eye sight and to educate and sensitize the people on the need to always go for a check.

The Commissioner said about fourty to sixty percent of blindness in the world today would have been prevented if citizens go for eye sight check up.

He described eye sight as the most important part of human organ,saying that free surgeries has been carried out in the three Senatorial district of the state.

Doctor Saka called on the people of the state to avail themselves the opportunity and assured that the partnership between the Optometric and the Ministry had come to stay in kogi state

He Commended the state Governor ,Alhaji Yahaya Bello for paying it’s Counterpart Fund that will enable the ministry partner with health development partners in accessing drugs.

The National Vice President of Optometric Association, Doctor Tempo Ogochukwu Nwosu says the eye sight is celebrated every second Thursday of October to educate people and to sensitize them on the need to love their eye as every other part of the body.

According to him, it is the associations corporate social responsibility to give back to the society and described the partnership between the association and the ministry as a welcome development in the health sector.

He said the present administration was the first to employe the services of Optometric and Commended the state government for the initiative and called for more.
