Kogi State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Olorunfemi Fanwo has restated the commitment of Governor Yahaya Bello to continue to run an open and inclusive governance in the State.
Hon Fanwo who made this known when Kogi NGO Network (KONGONET) paid him a courtesy visit, said the present administration in the State believes that government is for everyone, adding that leaders must realised that only open governance could effectively cure citizen activism and agitations.
“When people who are actively involved in government, it helps make it transparent and accountable for others to see and this in turn allows them support the government.
“The government should be able to answer the plight of the citizen and be able to resolve them, as this is one of the bedrock of government policy.
“Government needs to synchronize and bring together views of the people and policies of the government, thereby creating a successful meeting point, allowing the government to be answerable to the people through this”.
He added that there is also a need for volunteers, who will be able to serve the government at the highest level and also be held accountable as well; stressing that this will also allow the Government to be able to do more for the masses.
He disclosed that it was in furtherance of this that the State Government is planning to launch a programme called – Kogi Open Governance & Accountability System by August, 15th 2021 which is going to be the first of its kind in the country.
Responding, the Chairman, Kogi NGOs Network – Mr Idris Ozovehe Nisraisna, with his team – Executive Dir. PIBCID – Halima Oiza Sadiq., Ed, LYDEI – Eunice Abimbola Agbogun and Secretary KONGONT – Henry Hellen thanked the commissioner for honoring their invitation.
Mr Ozovehe said the Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from national and sub-national government to promote open government, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technology to strengthen governance.
He also said that OGP is overseen by a steering committee including representatives of government and civil society organizations.
In addition the Vice Chairman, Kogi NGO Network – Mr Hamza Aliyu added that Open Government Partnership(OGP) Network believes in carrying people along concerning the government.
he noted that this will allow people air their views about the government and also support it as well., which will enable the government to be more transparent for everyone to see.
In his closing remark, the Director Admin and finance, Ministry of Information and Communications – Mr Boniface Omakoji thanked the members of Kogi NGO Network (KONOGONET) for coming and said that the Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a great initiative that will make Kogi State outstanding among others.
