The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo has commended the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his commitment and devotion to the development of the information and communication sector of the State.
The commissioner who disclosed this at the defense of the 2022 budgetary allocations for the ministry before the Kogi State House of Assembly committee on Information and Strategic, said the sector had enjoyed tremendous support from Government.
Hon. Fanwo appreciated the Governor for uplifting the Information sector in the State, thus making Kogi people not only well informed about governance, but also provided a platform for them to make their inputs.
Defending the Budget of (N309, 737,000) Three Hundred and Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Seven Thousand naira only, called on the State House of Assembly to rejigged the extant laws establishing the State Broadcasting Corporation and the State Newspaper Corporation.
The commissioner who said that the Ministry has the core mandate of information dissemination to the public to create awareness about Government policies and programs as well as feedback to the Government, added that the provisions made in the 2022 budget would improve the quality of information dissemination as well as address emerging challenges faced by the Ministry.
Fanwo expressed his gratitude that the Ministry has sustainable programmes like the online Radio, a Radio programmes tagged “State of Kogi“ an audience radio interactive program every week, Kogi State open Governance and Accountability system (KOGAs) by this, the government is bring governance close to the door step of the people by the press of a button and it is the wish of the Ministry to have its own Television Station through the help of the State Government.
Fanwo urged the House committee on Information to consider the Budget and give it proper approval to all proposals to enable the Ministry to achieve and move forward in its laudable projects in the coming year.
The 2022 Ministry of Information and Communications Budget is estimates are as follows; Recurrent Revenue of N3,250,350; Salaries and allowances of N99, 608,524 and overhead costs of N292,300,680 for 2022.
The Graphic Newspaper projected a revenue of N9,000,000 salaries and allowances of N63, 021,687 and the overhead cost of N15,785,628 for 2022 while Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation proposed a recurrent revenue of N15,000,000; Salaries and allowances N134,269,561.09 and the overhead cost of N112,528,678 for 2022.
Speaking the Chairman of the House Committee, Hon Jimoh Musa Omiata assured that due diligence would be done and that House would partner the ministry to ensure the over all development of the sector.
