In a groundbreaking move, the Kogi State Government has inaugurated the Human Capital Development Council, chaired by Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu. This significant step is poised to drive economic growth, prosperity, and position Kogi State as a model for human capital development in Nigeria.

The occasion which was held in Lokoja today February 4, 2025 is aim at improving Human Capital Development in Kogi State. The council’s primary objective is to assist the state in achieving key objectives under the human capital development agenda, focusing on health and nutrition, education, and labor force participation. The Technical Working Group (TWG), inaugurated during the event, will play a crucial role in driving the implementation of the human capital development agenda in Kogi State.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to human capital development, allocating significant resources to education, healthcare, and social welfare programmes in the proposed 2025 budget. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of Kogi State citizens and contribute to the achievement of the federal government’s vision for a globally competitive nation by 2030.

The Kogi State Human Capital Development Programme is designed to foster a healthy, educated, and productive population, equipped to thrive in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. With this significant step, Kogi State is poised to become a model for human capital development in Nigeria, driving economic growth, prosperity, and creating a brighter future for its citizens.

As the state embarks on this revolutionary journey, the council’s chairman, Comrade Joel Salifu, emphasized the importance of developing a workable framework for the success of the programme. He stressed the need for council members to strategize and achieve set goals, while commending Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for entrusting the council members with the responsibility to serve.

Dr. Abdullahi Sani Ozamata, the council’s focal person and Chairman of the Technical Working Group, also spoke at the event. “The Human Capital Development Council was established in 2018 under the office of the vice president to support the State in accomplishing crucial goals within the human capital development agenda,” he explained.

“The council will focus on three key areas: Health and Nutrition, Education, and Labor Force Participation,” Dr. Ozamata added. “We will work tirelessly to ensure the success of this programme and create a brighter future for the people of Kogi State.”

With the Human Capital Development Council and Technical Working Group in place, Kogi State is poised to achieve remarkable strides in human capital development, driving economic growth, prosperity, and positioning itself as a model for Nigeria.
