The Kogi State Government has enhanced security at various educational institutions by putting perimeter fencing at Itakpe.
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Abanika Taiye, oversaw the handover of sites to contractors, RSA Global Investment Limited at Kogi State University Kabba and Qibla Global Options Limited at Kogi State Polytechnic Itakpe.
Speaking at the Vice Chancellor’s office of Kogi State University, Kabba, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of perimeter fencing in light of a previous incident at Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara (CUSTECH) where students were kidnapped.
Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, he said swiftly responded to the incident, ensuring the safe recovery of most students.
He disclosed that in response, the Governor directed that all schools be fenced immediately to prevent future security threats.
Hon. Abanika commended Governor Ododo for his commitment to the safety of students and his proactive approach to security measures.
The handover ceremony took place at the university site, with the Vice Chancellor’s representative, Dr. Mbashir A. Olanrewaju, presenting the contract note to the contractor.
Dr. Mbashir expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for prioritising security and supporting the university’s development initiatives.
Consultant Engineer Kabiru Suleiman highlighted the necessity of the perimeter fencing project in response to security threats in educational institutions.
The project reflects the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of students across Kogi State.
