The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, on Sunday paid a courtesy visit to Hajia Habibat Ahmed Alabi, mother of the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, at her residence in Abuja.
The visit, marked by warm exchanges and heartfelt appreciation, further underscored the strong bond between the two leaders and the enduring respect for family values and mentorship in public service.
Welcomed by a visibly elated Hajia Habibat Ahmed Alabi, the former Governor expressed deep gratitude to her for the prayers, moral guidance, and support she continues to offer her son as he steers the affairs of Kogi State.
“I understand the role mothers play in the lives of leaders,” Yahaya Bello said. “My late mother stood by me with her prayers and counsel. I am pleased that you are doing the same for my brother, and it reflects in the progress and stability we are witnessing under his leadership.”
In response, Hajia Habibat Ahmed Alabi thanked the former Governor for the trust he reposed in her son and for playing a pivotal role in his political rise.
“I do not know how best to thank you for identifying and grooming him for this great responsibility,” she said. “As his mother, I know he will never take that trust for granted. We raised him to be grateful, and I am confident he will remain loyal and committed to you and to the people of Kogi State.”
She also offered prayers for Alhaji Yahaya Bello, asking Allah to continue to protect and elevate him and his family. She extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to Governor Ododo, urging her son to remain focused, grateful, and compassionate in his leadership.
“We had very little while he was growing up,” she added. “That is why I always remind him to never forget the poor, to lead with integrity, and to keep his promises to God and the people of Kogi State.”
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who joined the meeting, expressed his profound gratitude to his predecessor for the thoughtful visit and reiterated his unwavering loyalty.
“Your Excellency, I remain eternally grateful for your trust, your guidance, and your constant support. I will not let you down. I also thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking me as a son. Kogi State will forever appreciate his support,” the Governor said.
Accompanying the former Governor were top political leaders and stakeholders from Kogi State, including the State APC Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello; the former Accountant General of the State and a Board Member of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, Alhaji Jibril Momoh; Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Sanni Abdulraheem Egidi; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Ali Bello; as well as other key figures from across the state.
