The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Acharu Okpanachi says the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is working round the clock to place the women folk on the pedestal of social change and development.
Mrs. Acharu Okpanachi stated this on the occasion of the 18th anniversary celebration of the Akuta Women Association Worldwide held in Okene, in Okene Local Government Area.
According to her, In Nigeria today, where women face significant challenges, including low political representation and economic disparities, the ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is working out ways to make women increasingly active in leadership roles and advocacy.
The Commissioner noted that there is growing recognition of the need for change and efforts to increase representation stressing that women are making strides with advocacy groups pushing for legal reforms against gender-based violence and other forms of discrimination.
She commended the wife of the state Governor, her Excellency, Hajia Sefinat Ododo for her unalloyed support to ensure that women in Kogi state effectively compete with her peers all over the world through her impactful economic and Social Empowerment programme for women, children and the vulnerable in the society.
Mrs Acharu Okpanachi congratulated the Akuta Women Association for marking a successful 18 years of impactful coordination and women development and hoped that the Association will continue to soar high in the pursuit of the objectives of the organization.
Earlier, the President, Akuta Women Association Worldwide, Hon. Victoria Maiyaki appealed to the state government to help in the acquisition of a permanent site as the Association is sitting on a rented apartment assuring that next year’s programme would be held at the permanent site of the Organization.
Highlight of the event was cultural dances and musical displays, cutting of the anniversary cake and presentation of the portrait of the President of the Association, Hon. Victoria Maiyaki to the Commissioner for women affairs and Social Development, Mrs Acharu Okpanachi.
