At the creation of kogi state in 1991, the state Government floated four companies among which was kogi Hotels and Tourism Corporation.The aim of incorporating the company was to make it a purely commercial outfit that will invest in viable hotels and tourism projects in the state. Unfortunately, this was not to be as the company could not take off as planned. In its place, kogi Hotels and Tourism Board was established in 1995 via an edict known as kogi hotels and Tourism Board edict N0: 1 of 1995.
Kogi Hotels and Tourism Board is a parastatal under the ministry of culture and Tourism. The ministry formulates policy on hotels and Tourism for the board to implement and ministry also supervises the activities of the board.
CREATION OF DEPARTMENT:
Presently, the board has four departments namely Tourism, Hotel, Admin and Accounts departments.
TOURISM DEPARTMENT:
The tourism department has responsibility on all matters relating to hotels and tourism in the board. This function includes identification, preservation, rehabilitation of all existing tourist sites, identification of new sites, promotion of tourism activities of the board and festivals. It organizes package tours and excursion.
HOTEL DEPARTMENT:
The department is in charge of Hotel registration, grading and classification in line with the Nigerian Tourism Development & corporation guide lines. Co-ordinates the activities of Hotelier Association in the state provide advisory services to hotels in the state. It organizes seminars/workshop for hoteliers and liase with the Nigerian Tourism development corporation on all matters relating to Hotels.
ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT:
The administration department handles issues affecting staff recruitment, promotion and discipline of staff, annual budget preparation, repairs and any other staff matters/welfare. The department is also responsible for maintenance of all assets of the board.
FINANCE DEPARTMENT:
The department is in charge of all financial transactions of the board. It is in charge of preparation/payment of staff salaries, revenue and expenditure of the board including all salaries, revenue and expenditure of the board including all bank transactions etc. it handles all purchases and procurements.
AUDIT DEPARTMENT:
The audit department monitors, audit all revenue and expenditures of the board to ensure that due process and laid down financial regulation and rules are followed.
