Kogi State Teaching Service Commission

                               RESPONSIBILITIES

The commission shall have to appoint, reabsorb, post, confirm appointment, promote, transfer, dismiss and discipline any teaching or non-teaching staff in any School controlled by the State Government or which is a receipt of government grant in aid.
• In exercise of tile power conferred on the Commission section (1) with regard to School Principal, the Commission shall give due regard to recommendation of the proprietor of such a School.

• The functions of the Commission shall be:

a) To maintain comprehensive and up-to-date personal records of staff for the State Teaching Service Commission.

b) To ensure that annual reports are rendered on all heads of institutions under the jurisdiction of the Commission.

c) To handle welfare, training and retraining of all staff of Schools under its jurisdiction.

d) To acquire, purchase or procure equipment and teaching aids which will enhance the efficiency of teachers in Teaching Service Commission.
e) To prepare testimonials and certificate of service for teaching and non-teaching staff, if and when necessary.
f) To ensure that only qualified teachers are engaged to teach in Schools and Colleges within the State.

g) To ensure that annual reports are rendered by its Zonal Offices.

h) To assess the qualification and placement of teaching and non-teaching staff subject to uniform guidelines made under section 13 of this Edict.

i) To deal with leave matters including leave, maternity leave, special or sick leave and study leave in conformity 1 with the uniform guidelines made under section ’13 of this Edict.

j) To prepare annual estimates and establishments proposal.

k) To prepare and implement schemes and condition of for all staff of the Commission.

l) To enter into any contract with any person, for material or for any other purpose for which it may require for the proper execution of its functions under this Edict.

m) To organize and conduct seminars and workshops for teaching and non-teaching staff.

n) To constantly review and propose to the Executive Governor through the Commissioner; modifications in operational methods and organizational structures of the State Teaching Service Commission and
