This is a statutory Board established by Edict No. 13 of 1998, by the Kogi State Government.
COMPOSITION OF THE BOARD
Political Class
This is an eleven-member Board comprising of:
- A part-time Chairman
- Five part-time members.
- Five ex-officio members representing the various sectors of the State Civil Service (i.e. representative of Post-Primary Institutions, Tertiary Institutions, representative of Ministry of Education, representative of Ministry of Finance and representative of Establishment and Training Department of the Executive Governor’s Office).
- Administrative Class (Executive Secretary and other Staff)
The Edict provides for the post of an Executive Secretary of the Board who shall be an Educationist to perform administrative and other duties. The Executive Secretary is the Chief Executive of the Board and is responsible for the execution of policies and the day to day running of the affairs of the Board.
The Executive Secretary is the Accounting Officer of the Board. At present, we have in place Dr. (Mrs.) V. M. Akpa as the Executive Secretary of the Board who give control and direction to other administrative staff of the Board.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF SCHOLARSHIP BOARD
Government Scholarship Award Scheme is aimed at assisting students to be successful without much stress in going through their studies to procure books, pay fees, complete projects, pay their accommodation or even help to feed such individuals as school where nothing is given.
Against this background, the specific objective of the scheme include the following:-
- To reward, promote and encourage academic achievement and excellence in any endeavor.
- To develop human resources for higher level manpower requirement of the State.
- To bring higher education, to the reach of many more qualified citizens who could not have been able to afford the acquisitions of such education.
- To enhance access to education and training in vocation for people’s in difficult circumstances such as the physically handicapped.
- To promote attainment of self actualization and national goals.
- To reduce drop-out rate due to financial constraints.
- To recognize and encourage merit to gifted people in the society for specialized skills.
- To assist the scholars obtain decent and conducive atmosphere for learning.
