The Board is charged with two broad-based functions viz

I)      to award scholarship and bursaries and other financial assistance to candidates of Kogi State Origin who obtain admission into institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.

ii)      To select and submit to the Executive Governor through the Hon. Commissioner, candidates of Kogi State Origin who satisfy the conditions of the award of scholarship overseas.

iii)     To recommend and review policies and initiate programmes on the award of scholarships.

iv)     To advice the Executive Governor on any matter relating to the award of scholarships.
                               
v)     To prepare the yearly Budget for the Board.
