There is an array of investment opportunities in virtually all sector of the Kogi economy. These opportunities needed to be fully explored and harnessed by investors. In addition, there are favourable government policies such as tax incentives, access to and availability of land etc. below are the various core investment areas which are bound in the state.
Agriculture:
The land is available in large quantity while the needed manpower cum agricultural inputs are very much available. The following crops can be produce in high commercial quantity.
1. Cassava: This crop can be used as stable food crop flour, gari, and for starch. It has an annual average yield of 27 tonnes per hectare (improved varieties) and can be planted all over the State. It can be best packaged in plastic or wooden crates, cellophane paper and jute bags.
2. Maize: Grown all over the State. It is used as food crop. Animal food fodder, Popcorn, flour, Corn oil, malt, cornflakes, grits, pharmaceutical starch and seed multiplcaition. It has an annual average yield of 28 tonnes per hectare (Improved varieties). It can best be packaged in cellophane, jute bags and paper cartons.
3. Cashew: This is an exotic crop that has gained commercial reputation over the years. Indeed, it is a foreign exchange earner. The nuts are cultivated in small lots all over the state but could be found in large plantations in Yagba West, Yagba East and Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state. It can be bottled, stored in tins, aluminium foil, crates and jute bags.
4. Oil Palm: It can be grown all over the but thrives mostly in Kabba/Bunu, Dekina, Ogori/Magongo and part of Yagba East and West Local Government Area. It is used for the production of Potash fertilizer, palm wine, flux in Tin-plate industry and for cooking.
SPECIFIC MINERAL RESOURCES
1. Iron Ore: Found at Itakpe, Ajagbonoko hills, Ebiya, Ekirin-Adde, Mount Patti and several other area in the state. The quality of the ores in various locations in the state varies from 30% iron to 66% iron. Basically, ores are used in the Steel Industry; Paint and Linoleum and Filters industries.
2. Clay: Large deposits of high quality clay are found all over the state. It is suitable for use in constructions, ceramic and refractory industries.
3. Marble/Limestone: Extensive deposits are found at Jakura, Agbaja, Ajaokuta and Ekirin-Adde. It is useful in building and construction, Steel making, Cement Production, Glass Making, Production of Animal feeds, Tiles and Ceramics manufacturing.
4. Feldspar/Quartz: It is widely spread across the state but predominantly found at Osara, Eri, Ejiba, Egbe, and Lokoja. It is use in Glass, Ceramic, soaps and abrasives industries.
5. Coal: Found at Okaba, Dekina and Kotom-Karfe, it is used in power and steam generation, chemicals, steel and other metallurgical industries.
6. Gold: This is a high metallic mineral and is found along the alluvial deposits of Egbe, Isanlu and along the river beds for jewelries, in dentistry and electroplating. It is a valued foreign exchange earner.
