BRIEF ON MINISTRY OF INFORMATION LOKOJA
ADMINISTRATION
The Hon. Commissioner is the head of the ministry; He is appointed by the State Government and is a member of the State Executive Council. Next to the Hon. Commissioner is the Permanent Secretary. He/she is the administrative head and Chief Accounting Officer of the Ministry and is a career civil servant.
STRUCTURE
The Ministry has five departments headed by Directors. These are (I) Directorate of Administration and Finance (ii) Directorate of Information Services (iii) Directorate of Planning Research and Documentation (IV) Directorate of Home Affairs (v) Directorate of Graphic Arts.
PARASTATALS
The ministry has some Parastatals under it. They are: (I) The Printing and Publishing Corporation (the publishers of Graphic Newspaper).
(ii) the State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kogi) .
(iii) the State Library Board .
(IV) Government Printing Press.
MANDATE
The ministry has the constitutional mandate to inform, educate and enlighten the people of the State on government programmes and policies. The ministry carries out the responsibility through the execution of several publicity programmes and activities which include issuance of periodic news bulletin and press releases as well as publishing of a magazine known as Kogi Today. The Ministry also produces radio and television documentaries. The ministry operates a marriage registry and handles other home affairs duties such as public celebrations, Armed Forces Remembrance Day and regulation of video rental services.
