Ijumu Local Government Area come into being first in 1982 during the Civilian regime of Alhaji Adamu Attah the then Governor of Kwara State. The coming of the Buhari/Idiagbon Military regime saw the scraping of the Local Government Area and its subsequent merging with the former Oyi Local Government Area. The present day Ijumu Local government Area came to live with the creation of more Local Government in the Federation by the Babagida’s Administration in September, 1991, Ijumu Local government was once again carved out of Oyi Local Government. Prior to the 1976 Local Government reform by the Muritala/Obasanjo regime; Ijumu Local Government was a District in the then Kabba Province under which she was known as Ijumu Native authority.


Historically, and for administrative convenience, Ijumu Local Government is made up of three (3) Administrative Districts i.e. Gbede District in the North, Ijumu0aaArin or Ijumu central and Ogidi/Ijumu-Oke District in the southern part of the Local Government Area. Iyara. In Ijumu Area District is the headquarter of the Local Government
