Kogi State Hospital Management Board



                                                         


The KGHMB was founded in 1991 as a result of the creation of kogi state. It was established by edict No.9 of 1991 which was amended by the edict No.5 of 1994. Since its inception, the Board has played a major role in the efficient and effective discharge of health care services in the state.
Following the last staff audit exercise in the state, the staff strength of the Board has significantly reduced from 4,500 to 2,360 workers comprising of various categories of personnel which include both Medical and nonmedical personnel.
The Board supervises fifty five (55) State owned hospitals/clinics. These include all the 22 general hospitals, cottage hospitals and four clinics as listed below

ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE:

The Hospital management Board is a major parastatal under the State Ministry of health. It has a Board which comprises of the Board of Directors headed by a chairman. All the members of the Board including the Chairman are part –time members. They are responsible for formulating policies and decisions for the Board in line with the civil Service rules and regulations

However, the administrative structure of the Board comprises the Chief Medical Director/Chief Executive (CMD/CE) and other Directors heading various Directorates viz aviz Medical services and Training, Administration and Finance, Pharmaceutical services and Nursing services. The Chief Medical Director is the Chief Executive and Accounting officer for the Board. He is also responsible for day to day running of the organization. He is a member of the Board – in council and ensures that policies of the State Government and Board -in council l are translated into actions and programmed. Each Directorate is further made up of departments, sections and units as may be determined.

All the Hospitals under the Board are headed by the Medical Officer in-charge or Chief Nursing Officer in-charge, as the case may be. They are the accounting officers in their respective hospitals but responsible to the Chief Medical Director/CE.

PROJECT HANDLED BY THE BOARD:
Beside payment of salaries, the Board does not handle projects. All Capital receipt and expenditure and projects/programmers involving health activities are coordinated by the Ministry of Health as the superintending Ministry.
